Many of the most interesting projects in the works for Napa County are occurring in American Canyon, notably the Watson Ranch development and converting the abandoned cement plant into a community center complete with two large amphitheaters.

The city proposes converting its utilitarian, City Corporate Yard by the wetlands into the Napa River Ecology Center managed by the American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation.

It would provide education and instructional activities on the first level and offices for mission-aligned groups and multipurpose uses on the second level. An outdoor deck overlooking the wetlands will provide an area for viewing and events.

Outdoor uses would include a 5,000-sq.-ft. flex space on the west side, a nature play area in the east side, 30 parking spaces in the south, and perimeter fencing.

In addition, the city is planning a kayak launch and wetlands enhancements west of the center and overflow parking south of the center for 50 vehicles for access to the launch.

Stay tuned for some other big news from American Canyon.
